China’s first 2.5-meter-diameter H-O engine nozzle has been successfully developed, laying the foundation for a heavy-duty rocket

China News Service Beijing on March 19 19 (Guo Chaokai) according to the China aerospace science and technology group, the company a courtyard 211 factory has successfully developed the first domestic heavy hydrogen engine nozzle level 2.5 meters in diameter, marked the 211 factory diffusion brazing technology of large size stainless steel parts ability reached the world advanced level, for China’s heavy vehicle development laid a solid foundation.

When it comes to rocket engines, the biggest and most eye-catching part is the huge nozzle. The main function of the nozzle is to convert the heat energy of the high temperature and high pressure gas produced by the rocket propellant fuel into kinetic energy, so that the rocket can obtain huge thrust. The engine nozzle developed by 211 plant is divided into upper and lower sections, the upper section has a maximum diameter of 1.8 meters, the lower section has a maximum diameter of 2.5 meters, and the thinnest part of the wall is only 1 mm. The diffusion brazing technology of inner wall milling groove and outer wall direct socket structure is adopted.

Structural design technology of diffusion brazing process for large size parts, matching of high and low temperature tooling, deformation control of brazing for large size parts… The 211 plant has broken through a series of technical problems, realized the whole system research and application of diffusion brazing technology from equipment to process, and successfully completed the diffusion brazing of the upper and lower section of heavy-duty engine regenerative cooling nozzles, and successfully realized the diffusion brazing manufacturing of the 2.5-meter diameter regenerative cooling nozzles. The successful development of the nozzle has laid a solid foundation for the development of China’s large diameter heavy carrier rocket.

China’s most capable rocket is the Long March 5, which can carry 25 tons to low Earth orbit. China needs to develop a brand new carrier rocket to meet the needs of its future deep space exploration and lunar exploration projects. Luan Enjie, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the first commander of China’s lunar exploration program, said in an interview that China will develop a 100-ton heavy carrier rocket in the future to meet the need to go further into space. At present, the demonstration stage of heavy-lift carrier rocket has been basically completed, and it has entered the follow-up stage of project approval. The research work is expected to be carried out during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. (after)
