The head of the European Commission threatened to ban exports of AstraZeneca vaccines

Some European Union countries had previously suspended the use of AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine because of concerns about the risk of blood clots. However, some EU countries announced the resumption of the AstraZeneca vaccine after the European Medicines Agency released preliminary findings that showed it was “safe and effective”.

However, after concerns about its safety were temporarily removed, the question of AstraZeneca’s vaccine production was brought back to the fore. European Commission President Michel von der Leyen warned on Monday that the EU would not rule out a ban on exports from EU member states if AstraZeneca failed to deliver the full amount of its Coronavirus vaccine as stipulated in the contract.
