China News Service, Beijing, March 24 (Zhou Yin) The Ministry of Transport (MOT) said at a press conference held by the State Council Information Office on Thursday that the high-speed maglev train will be able to travel in 2035. A platform for research and development, testing and trial production has been established, and a test train has been successfully run.
Wang Yang, chief planner of the Ministry of Transport and director of the department of comprehensive planning, said that the plan clearly stipulates that the research and development of technology reserves, such as the 600km-per-hour high-speed maglev system, the 400km-per-hour high-speed wheel-rail passenger train system and the low-vacuum tube (tunnel) high-speed train, should be coordinated. He said the high-speed maglev train has the advantages of no friction, strong climbing ability, energy saving and environmental protection. In the next stage, the high-speed maglev train also needs to strengthen technical research, further improve the technical maturity, strengthen the economic comparison, operation feasibility analysis, and promote the planning and construction of the project when the conditions are ready.
Experts believe that the 600 km/h high-speed maglev traffic system can fill the speed gap between high-speed rail and air transport, and form a more reasonable, efficient, flexible and convenient multi-dimensional traffic architecture with the speed gradient of aviation, high-speed rail, high-speed maglev and urban traffic.
At the press conference, Hong Kong journalists were concerned about whether the maglev train would have access to Hong Kong’s network. Wang Zhiqing, vice minister of the Ministry of Transport, said he also hopes the test will be successful and the construction will be promoted so that the 600km high speed maglev train can be brought to Hong Kong as soon as possible, so that Hong Kong can catch the express train of mainland development.
