Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, March 24 China’s agricultural processing industry will see revenue of 23.2 trillion yuan in 2020, an increase of 1.2 trillion yuan from the previous year, with the conversion rate of agricultural processing reaching 67.5%, Wang Fengzhong, director of the Institute of Agricultural Products Processing under the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, said Wednesday. At present, the contribution rate of science and technology to the development of agricultural processing industry has reached 63%.

Wang Fengzhong said that during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, science and technology provided a strong support for the steady development of China’s agricultural processing industry. A series of technological breakthroughs have been made in the dynamic preservation and cold chain logistics of fresh agricultural products, primary processing of producing areas, wheat milling, low temperature oil pressing, etc. Key core equipment such as milling, oil pressing, juicing, livestock and poultry slaughter and segmentation have realized the transformation from relying on the introduction to independent manufacturing, and the independent innovation ability has been significantly enhanced.
He also said that although science and technology have made remarkable achievements in helping the development of agricultural processing industry, there are still some problems in the actual work. For example, many key enzyme preparations and ingredients involved in the processing of agricultural products rely on imports. Postpartum loss of fresh agricultural products is large, and there are shortcomings in the green and accurate loss reduction and preservation technology and intelligent cold chain logistics technology. The lack of step processing technology from primary processing to deep processing, fresh processing to cooked processing of agricultural products leads to low processing added value.
Sun Tan, vice president of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, said that in the future, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences will accelerate the development of agricultural processing industry, promote the optimization and upgrading of the whole industrial chain, and strive to achieve the conversion rate of agricultural products from 67.5% to about 80% by 2025, further optimize the structure layout, and greatly improve the market competitiveness.
He said that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the construction of a modern rural industrial system will be the focus of overall support for the coordinated development of primary processing, intensive processing and comprehensive utilization. We will promote agglomeration of factors of production, support local governments in building industrial parks for processing agricultural products, and create pilot areas for the integrated development of primary, secondary and tertiary industries in rural areas. We will promote scientific and technological innovation, overcome bottlenecks in processing technologies and equipment for a number of agricultural products, and integrate and create a number of processing technologies and supporting equipment with high scientific content and wide applicability. We will promote the cultivation of main bodies, promote recycling, high-value utilization and cascade utilization, and strive to realize the comprehensive revitalization of rural areas driven by industrial revitalization.
