The French government will reach a New Deal with the European Union in the next few days to rescue Air France, Economy, Finance and Revitalization Minister Bruno Le Maire said Wednesday.
Le Maire said in a live radio broadcast on Sunday morning that the French government and the European Union are nearing the end of the long and difficult negotiations on new state aid to Air France, and the two sides will reach an agreement in the next few days. Le Maire said the two sides would reach a solution that would achieve fair competition while safeguarding France’s interests. But he declined to give details of the new bailout agreement.
As COVID-19 continues, Air France will suffer huge losses in 2020. Last May, the European Union agreed to a 7 billion euro bailout for Air France from the French government. (Front desk reporter Jia Yanning)
