Baotou Steel responded to the staff to commit suicide by jumping steel: suspected and securities losses, unable to repay debt

March 30 – Baotou steel group BBB 30 Baotou steel pipe company employee death issued a statement. A criminal case has been ruled out as suicide, the statement said. His suicide is suspected to be related to the purchase of futures and stocks with a large amount of losses, excessive debts and inability to repay them.

The employee, a steelmaker at the Baotou Steel and Pipe Company, went missing on March 24, 2021, while on his night shift, the statement said. Surveillance video showed that the employee first placed his helmet and gloves on the slag path at 22:54 on March 24 at the fire door of converter No. 7 and then jumped into the slag tank to his death. Current, via public security organ preliminary investigation, already excluded criminal case, department commits suicide. The emergency management department also believes that it does not belong to the enterprise production safety accident.

The statement also mentioned that the suicide worker “personality introversion, unmarried up to now, long-term through the securities company to buy futures and stocks, only March 24 on the same day trading a loss of more than 60 thousand yuan”, suspect that “its suicide and loss of larger amount, overmuch debt, unable to repay related”.

On March 29, a video of a male employee of Baotou Iron and Steel Group committing suicide by jumping into molten steel from a blast furnace, suspected of being under great pressure, went viral online. A worker hovers around a blast furnace for a long time, then jumps off.

According to Xiaoxiang Morning Post, a staff member of Baotou’s emergency management bureau confirmed the accident on the same day, saying, “There was a real accident. After the public security department surveyed the scene, it reported back to colleagues in charge of work safety. We also watched the monitoring and expressed our sympathy for the victim.” (APP)
