China’s offshore oil fields realize unmanned typhoon production

Shenzhen oct 14 (Reuters) (z) family of English cnooc (China) co., LTD. Shenzhen branch, 14, said in a news release, is located in the south China sea in the east China sea of enping oilfield group in recently successfully tested a remote automatic control system, in the typhoon kompasu attack, an unmanned field under the condition of normal production, save oil production losses of more than 100000 barrels, It generated economic benefits of over 53 million yuan.

It is reported that Enping oilfield group, which is more than 200 kilometers away from Shenzhen, consists of three offshore production platforms, one floating production storage and unloading unit (FPSO) and three crude oil mixing and transportation pipelines. Since 2017, the crude oil output has ranked first in the eastern part of the South China Sea for four consecutive years. The “typhoon production mode” to avoid the entire oilfield production, marking the first time for China’s offshore oil fields to achieve unmanned production during a typhoon, which can provide uninterrupted oil and gas resources for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Wan Nianhui, deputy general manager of the operation area of Enping Oilfield, said typhoons frequently occur in summer and autumn in the eastern part of the South China Sea. When typhoons affect the oilfield, an evacuation and recovery should be organized, and the oilfield should stop production for at least three days. After the completion of the remote automatic control system, Enping oil field group is equipped with the conditions to maintain unmanned production during typhoons. The personnel evacuated from the sea can monitor and control the offshore production facilities in real time in the land control center to maintain the normal production of the oil field.

Previously, China’s Baiyun, Dongfang and other offshore gas fields have realized typhoon mode production. Different from the automatic production of gas fields, remote automatic control of offshore oil fields is more difficult, facing risks such as preventing oil spills, pipeline clogging, and water inflow in FPSO engine room. Meanwhile, it is necessary to ensure the production of FPSO within the range of acceptable swing degree, which requires breakthrough of professional design concepts such as technology, electrometer and communication.

It was reported that the feasibility study of the remote automatic control system in Enping Oilfield was launched in August 2019. Offshore construction will begin in July 2020; By the end of 2020, it will complete the access renovation and the trial work of joint sea-land coordination; It was tested and verified in April this year.

Cnooc (China) co., LTD. Shenzhen branch deputy general manager and security director deng Chang Hong said: “enping oil field as China’s offshore oil producer, with ‘the typhoon production mode to avoid the whole oil field production, can not only improve the production efficiency and economic benefit of offshore oil and gas fields, and provides a reference for new oil and gas field intelligent construction. In the future, the automatic control operation can be upgraded to a normal production mode, providing a new way for unmanned and less manned exploration of offshore platforms and reducing the cost of oilfield development and construction.” (after)
