China’s National Energy Administration aims to increase the share of non-fossil energy in China’s energy consumption to around 20% by 2025

China News Service Qingdao, October 18 Zhang Jianhua, head of China’s National Energy Administration, said Thursday that China will continue to promote green and low-carbon energy transformation and strive to increase the share of non-fossil energy consumption to about 20 percent by 2025.

The second Belt and Road Energy Ministers’ Meeting was held in Qingdao on The same day. Zhang Made suggestions on promoting energy cooperation and green transformation under the Belt and Road Initiative.

First, we will continue to deepen policy communication and coordination. Zhang said that China will continue to deepen cooperation with other countries on green energy strategies, plans, policies and standards, and fully tap the potential of green energy cooperation in light of the needs of low-carbon energy transformation in all countries. At the same time, we should encourage countries to further improve policy stability, enhance investment facilitation, and create a more open, fair and stable market environment for green energy investment.

Second, we will promote the large-scale development of green energy. We need to strengthen support for policy-based insurance for green energy investment, and strive to see a number of high-quality, sustainable, risk-resistant, affordable, inclusive and accessible green energy projects launched to boost the green and low-carbon energy development of all countries. By 2025, China will strive to increase the share of non-fossil energy consumption to about 20 percent, and reduce energy consumption and CARBON dioxide emissions per unit of GDP by 13.5 percent and 18 percent, respectively, compared with 2020.

Third, actively carry out cooperation in energy technology innovation. Zhang jianhua stressed that in the process of energy transformation, we should coordinate the relationship among cost, green and safety, and continue to promote the cost reduction of energy technologies. We will attach importance to the transnational application and application of energy innovation technologies, promote a number of leading demonstration projects for technology innovation, enable more countries to benefit from the benefits of energy technology progress, and promote the realization of affordable, reliable and sustainable modern energy services for all.

Fourth, strengthen capacity building and technical assistance in the field of green energy. In the field of green energy, we should give full play to the role of the Belt and Road Energy Partnership and cooperation network, conduct capacity building activities on a regular basis, and promote mutual learning among countries. At the same time, China will provide green energy technical assistance to relevant countries as needed to provide more support for the rapid development of green energy in all countries. (after)
